Getting tired of April showers? The lovely month of May is coming soon and the Arts Council is bringing a Beltane Celebration to Port Orford!

On Saturday, May 4th starting at noon, there will be a FREE community gathering honoring the ancient Iron Age Celtic May Day holiday called Beltane. This festive, fun, frolic focuses on the freshness and newness of May with its promise of the fertility of Summer and renewal.

The Arts Council and our Port Orford Witches Dance Group have the perfect Beltane events planned. The Witches Dance group will perform the first dance of 2024 with the witches festooned in Beltane flowers and the colors of springtime. Next comes the traditional Beltane May Pole! Dancers will perform the Weaving Dance while braiding bright colored ribbons around a 12’ May Pole. The music for this beautiful dance is a waltz called “Port Orford”, written especially for our town. We just might get the whole gathering waltzing too!

All of this takes place in the empty lot just next to Mr. Ed’s at Hwy 101 and 18th Street. Bring a picnic, your favorite lawn chair. We will have straw bales for seating, first come, first sit…This FREE community gathering is family-friendly and dog-friendly (leashes, please) and FESTIVE! COME JOIN US FOR THE MAGICK!
