Redfish Music Festival 2025

The Redfish Music Festival (named after the Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve) was founded in 2021 with its week long music festival based in Port Orford, Oregon, the last week of July on the beautiful southern coast. The Festival was designed by musician Fritz Gearhart to include public concerts and an intensive week of classical music training for students studying violin, viola and cello. In residence for the week, a faculty of internationally renowned artists will work with our students and perform in festival concerts. The Redfish Music Festival also presents concerts through the winter and spring bringing quality classical music to the southern Oregon and northern California coast.

Concerts and open teaching events will be held in various locations within the charming coastal towns of Port Orford, Bandon, Langlois, North Bend, Gold Beach and Crescent City, CA. Venues include Zion Lutheran Church in Port Orford, the Port Orford Public Library, the Bandon Sprague Theater, the Crescent City Cultural Center and the unique Langlois Cheese Factory event space. The festival also features some outdoor events including a concert at the oceanfront Castaway Motel.

Redfish Summer Festival

We are excited for our summer festival which is right around the corner! This year the festival begins with a concert in North Bend on July 26th which will be repeated in Crescent City California and in Port Orford the following two days. See the events page for all of the concert listings. This first program will include the Mozart Piano Quartet in E flat and the fantastic Dohnanyi Piano Quintet in C minor. The performers will be Fritz Gearhart and Miya Saito-Beckman, violins, Leslie Straka, viola, Andrew Smith, cello and Genevieve Lee on piano. On Sunday July 28th our students arrive! This year we will host nine student from around the country who will join us. The student repertoire this year will be: Quartet in A minor for Violin, Viola and Two Cellos, Op. 35 by Anton Arensky String Quintet, Menuetto by Luigi Boccherini (arr. Hellmesberger), Allemande from String Quintet in C major by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf, Piano Quartet in A minor by Joaquin Turina. The students will begin live performances with the open masterclass on Wednesday. You will hear them play various movements from these works as they learn them throughout the week culminating in our final concert on Sunday Aug. 4th at the Langlois Cheese Facotory! We are so excited to have the inaugural year of the Redfish Music Festival! This summer we are starting small and will have a small student component but a full slate of public performances by both the students and our artist-faculty.
